Air Traffic Control

NH Final Cut

Fireworks at the Mountain Edge
Excellent vehicle choice. Supreme color option!
Beers. Friends. Front porch. Heat Lamp. NH. wait....is that Willis? WTF is he doing here?
I just got a new f&$&ing sandwhich, and this happens to be the best spot in town. Think, Wholefoods for the anti-corporate.
Antique plane rides with Uncle Mark! Damn good pilot, even better craftsman. If you to need a pre-WWII aircraft transformed into a flying bar/lounge, my uncle is your man. Hit him up!

Baller times in Connecticut, Boston, and hanging with friends.

So it goes.

I'll be Woods Forever

My favorite view of Lake Sunapee

Andrew Kathan
Lake Solitude 0.5 miles from the summit of Mt. Sunapee
Fun times in the woods!

The Newbury-Sunapee hiking trail is a 6 mile loop form Newbury Harbor to the summit of Mt. Sunapee. Full of aggressively steep rocks, incredible view points, and narrow pathways, the trail meanders through the woods to Lake Solitude and continues on to the summit. Rather than walk down the ski trails like Andrew and Max, I ran the 3 miles back down the trail in a casual 29 minutes. Not bad for hiking all evening.

In retrospect, trail running alone is very dangerous as hazardous rocks, slippery trails, mud, roots, moose, and bears may impede your journey. I highly recommend not partaking in such activities alone, without food or water, while the sun is setting, or while exhausted after hiking 3 miles up the trail.

Be advised.

Fresh Air & the Imperfect Science of Gaining Persective

Fresh air is all around us. For individuals residing in NH, some claim that we have some of the most pure air in New England. In a land where cows, hiking trails, and lakes outnumber the people, I fully support such claims. Just yesterday, I hiked to the top of Mt. Sunapee with my brother and longtime best friend Max Eriksson. Without anyone in sight, we had the opportunity to take in the rolling hills, pure air, and refreshing silence that New Hampshire has to offer. Black flies, lakes, and nature....that's why I come up here!

For those of you residing in areas where fresh air is not an option, you can have an equally satisfying experience talking with a friend or interacting with those you love. For me, such interactions lower stress and regardless of how severe an issue, aligns everything in a perfectly disorganized demeanor, full of enough uncertainty and variety to keep me entertained. Dealing with stress is a series of interesting and pivotal plateaus in life, often creating one to loose sight of goals, hopes, and aspirations. Thankfully, breathing fresh air and gaining insight to conquer stress is as simple as physical activity, technological correspondence, or face to face interaction.

New Hampshire

Something about being home is truly fantastic. Far too often, I get so immersed in traveling, adventures, and skiing, I forget how meaningful it is to come home. What seemed like a prison devoid of life, culture, and anything exciting as an adolescent has now transformed into a lush playground of outdoor activities, old friends, and incredible scenery. I honestly love being home and could not have asked for a better place to growup. Over the past two weeks, I enjoyed as many New Hampshire activities as possible, saw old friends, met up with CJ and Nicole for a 10k roadrace, and had an absolute blast in the process. Here are some photos of the homeland:

Wells drove up from VA in hopes of skiing Tuckerman's Ravine on Mt. Washington. Unfortunately, they closed the hiking trails, the headwall had no snow, crevasses were far too abundant, and it was 15 degrees the day we were hoping to ski. Thankfully, we had a great day of bike rides, canoeing, and shooting guns.
GUNS are fun. Especially when no one gets hurt and you shoot at moving bio-degradable clay pigeons in the woods. Thanks to my brother Brian, who successfully thwarted a quarter life crisis by purchasing multiple shotguns, we had a great time!

Flannel. Guns. Woods. Sounds like NH.
Board games are very fun. Even when you know all the cards.
The following day, I woke up to stormy skies, packed up, and ventured out to Portsmouth, NH for the Bobcat Bolt 5k/10k road race. My homie Chris Jerard puts on the event in memory of Josh and Nate Hardy, two highschool friends that passed away far too young.

Nicole Birkhold is a rockstar. I don't kick it with her nearly enough but when I do, I always have a GREAT TIME. She takes the work hard, play hard mentality to a whole new level and you best be on your game when partying with her.
Sperry Tents all day! Getting setup for the race

Moxie soda = redish/orange can. Ben Moxham, who also goes by Moxie, has redish/orange hair. Coincidence?
AWSHolson would be genuinely proud!
The 10k race went great! I ran a 50.24 and palced 24th out of 65! Not bad considering I woke up at 5am, did race registration for three hours, then ran without absolutely zero training! To be honest, I have not ran more than 2 miles since Fall of 2008 due to some knee issues and living in frozen ski towns throughout North America. Pretty stoked! Later that evening, we went the Isles of Shoals cruise/ party boat, danced the night away, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

As stoked as we can be at 5:45am registration

Merica!

We spent the remainder of the evening between D-Street & Fat Bellies singing Karaoke and playing Buckhunter. Matt Berkowitz joined up with our crew and sent it with everyone. Rumor has it, CJ when to Gilly's after the bar and had the full NH experience.

Overall, I am genuinely thankful to be home. Meeting up with friends both new and old, doing NH activities, and spending time with my family is an incredible vacation. Regardless of where you're from, embrace it, see the positive aspects, and make sure to let your friends know how much you enjoy their company. After all, far too many of us go too soon and friends are the best part of life.
